History's record of such women was rarely flattering. Medieval and Renaissance literature cast them as unfaithful wives, their partners as figures of ridicule. That both people might choose this dynamic, and that the woman's power within it might be something to celebrate rather than condemn, was not a frame most historical eras were prepared to entertain.
The closest the historical record gets is women powerful enough to operate outside the rules. Catherine the Great, who ruled Russia for over three decades, took somewhere between twelve and twenty-two known lovers across her reign while refusing to remarry specifically because doing so would have meant surrendering control. Her husband Peter III was publicly sidelined and eventually deposed. She was not in a negotiated dynamic, but she controlled her own sexuality absolutely and on her own terms, which was scandalous enough that her enemies ran smear campaigns against her for it that persist as myths to this day.
The consensual cuckoldress emerged properly once BDSM communities developed the language and frameworks for female dominance and negotiated power exchange. The distinction between a woman simply having affairs and a woman actively holding the dominant position in a chosen dynamic required both partners to have a vocabulary for what they were doing. That vocabulary is recent, which is why the identity is recent, even if the desire behind it has persisted through time.
